africa-tribal-art.com In Africa-tribal art, the second edition of Edition Schulte/ Weiss, over 200 masks, figures and ritual objects from Western as well as Equatorial and Central Africa are shown by colourful illustrations on 174 pages.
Hereby a deep insight into the artistic work of many ethnic groups as e.g. the Bamana, Senufo, Yoruba, Songye or Luba is given by the number and kind of arrangement of the works of art.

Thus e.g.  anthropomorphous figures encorporate as a portrait the respective ruler or ancestor of a nation. They characterize their religious beliefs; portrayals of motherhood or twins refer to mythological situations; reliquiary figures sit enthroned as protectors over the mortal remains of the dead they symbolize at the same time. Fetishes activate in the belief of many Africans their helpful function by sacrificial offerings.
However, the largest group of objects of African art are the manifold types of masks, which have a social as well as a political or religious meaning by corresponding acts.

The extraordinary variety of the illustrated objects conveys the viewers the fascination of African art whether their point of view is an aesthetic or ethnological one.

The book is firmly bound and the size is 24 x 31 cm. It has got a premium dust cover, the totally number of pages is 274 and costs 98 Euro.
